| Comments: This bill is an article created to add the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act in order to address custody and visitation issues when one parent lives in South Carolina and the other parent does not. This article includes provisions such as: foreign countries shall be treated as states of the United States; the South Carolina court may communicate with other state courts on issues of child custody; the South Carolina court may take emergency jurisdiction is the child is abused neglected, or abandoned; and the state can decline jurisdiction if the state feels that a different state is a more appropriate court. This bill also wants to repeal subarticle 2, article 9, chapter 7.
This comprehensive legislation revises procedures for establishing and enforcing child custody and visitation when one of the parties resides in this State and the other does not. | |||||
