-1/17/2007Senate Referred to Subcommittee: Ritchie (ch), Rankin, Lourie, Scott
Notes: Voices supports S. 151
Codes: abuse
Comments:
  • In 2004, over 17,000 reports of child abuse or neglect were made.  8,400 children needed a pediatric forensic medical exam.  Only 25% of that need was met.
  • Many children receive medical exams, but these exams are not forensic medical exams.  There is a concern that an unknown number of cases are being missed or misdiagnosed.
  • S 151 would improve the quantity of qualified providers, support the continual delivery of services and improve the consistency and quality of services.
  • S 151 requests $3 million per year in funding to conduct medical provider education programs and fund pediatric forensic medical exams provided by qualified medical providers.
