The Smoky Mountain Beekeepers Association will be holding a Beginning Beekeepers School from 8:00AM until 4:00PM on Saturday, April 5th at the Southwestern Community College Swain Campus on 60 Almond School Rd. Bryson City, NC.

This school will be an all day event directed at first time beekeepers and will include all aspects of the fundamentals of beekeeping. Topics covered include: honey bee biology, the architecture of the modern hive, aspects of hive behavior, seasonal operations required of the beekeeper and diseases and pests that may be encountered. In addition, this course is appropriate for the experienced beekeeper as the presenters have many years of beekeeping experience and knowledge to share.

Mid morning refreshments as well as lunch will be included. There will be door prizes and if our supplies hold out, a starter nuc of bees can be ordered. Exhibits will be set up around the room to help the beginner understand what is required.

Registration is $25.00 per person if paid at the door, or $20.00 if you pre-register by mail prior to April 1 by sending a check to Betty Hartsell, 125 Gassaway Rd, Bryson City, NC 28713. The school fee includes lunch and a one year membership with the Smoky Mountain Beekeepers Club. Existing members can attend for $5.00, which covers your lunch.
