Contact Your State Representative Soon-The FACT Act Scheduled for Hearing Next Week

HB 713, the Full Accountability in the Collection of Taxes (FACT) Act which would authorize local governments to receive more detailed information about their local sales taxes from the Department of Revenue (DOR) is facing significant opposition that includes the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. The FACT Act will provide more transparency in the collection of taxes, provide data that will help with the economic development efforts in your county. The bill will receive a hearing next Wednesday, Feb. 12th, in the Sales Tax Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee. Please contact your state representative and ask them to support greater information sharing between DOR and local governments.

General Assembly Passes Resolutions Recognizing ACCG Centennial Anniversary

ACCG is celebrating its 100th year anniversary of service to Georgia’s county governments in 2014. This year not only symbolizes ACCG’s long-lasting commitment to advancing Georgia’s counties but it speaks to its history of partnering with state counterparts to provide efficient and effective government. This was evident as both the House and Senate members passed special resolutions on Tuesday recognizing the centennial anniversary and the significance of the state’s 159 counties. In addition, Governor Deal delivered a proclamation during the legislative breakfast on Tuesday at the 2014 Capitol Connection Conference honoring the ACCG centennial. Georgia County Information Now Available at Your Fingertips with New ACCG County Mobile App

ACCG is pleased to announce the release of its new ACCG County mobile app. This new mobile app is available for iPhone and Android users through the App Store and Google Play. The ACCG County app is equipped with the association’s database features and contains contact information for all 159 counties, county history via the New Georgia Encyclopedia, county statistics and facts, a directory of elected and appointed officials, legislative bill tracking, the ACCG calendar of events, and the ability to email or call ACCG or county staff directly from your phone. The app also maximizes already built-in smartphone features such as GPS and location-based services allowing you to use your smartphone navigation system to get turn-by-turn directions to various county offices.
