The Final Stretch of the 2016 Legislative Session:  Which Bills Survived Crossover Day & What to Watch

The final days of the 2016 legislative session are quickly approaching. Crossover Day, Legislative Day 30, determined what bills have a chance of passing and what bills are no longer viable in their current form. The bills that survived Crossover Day and are still under consideration by the General Assembly are included in this week’s Legislative Update. Please be sure to carefully review the update and make note of the legislation that is still moving.

There were many bills proposed by the General Assembly this year that failed to pass by Crossover Day. Click here to access the significant bills tracked by ACCG that did not make it past Legislative Day 30.

Ask Legislators to Support SB 375, New Cities Reform Legislation

SB 375, one of ACCG’s legislative priorities, overwhelmingly passed the Senate with a 55-1 vote and is now before the House Governmental Affairs Committee. This bill establishes reforms and more predictability in the process of creating new cities in Georgia. It also expands the new city’s impact study to look at the fiscal and service delivery impacts on the entire county, prohibits unincorporated islands, places several of the current rules in statute so that they cannot be changed in the middle of the process, and studies what impact the newly incorporated area will have on past pension obligations to the county. Please contact members of the House Governmental Affairs Committee and urge them to support SB 375.

ACCG thanks counties, in advance, for their assistance and attention to this issue.
