Course Description

Whether a child is your victim or your eyewitness, you must investigate and prepare for trial differently. We will look at the issues that confront investigators, forensic interviewers, and prosecutors when faced with a case involving a child. These issues to help you build your case: medical and visual diagnosis of child abuse, childhood developmental delays, forensic interviewing, unique defenses, building corroboration, and special considerations around child pornography and trafficking.  

Tentative Topics Include:

Medical and visual diagnosis of child abuse
How to handle defense experts
Finding and building corroboration
Pre-trial motions
The child’s developmental delays in interview and in trial prep
Special considerations in trafficking and teen girls
Interviewing the child abuse suspect
On-scene interviews to the complex investigation
Working with the victim’s family
