Training Description:
The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM), is pleased to present a one-day Elder Abuse Training, at the PAAM Offices in Lansing, Michigan.

Join PAAM Training Attorney Ryan Painter, Investigator Tom Holcomb, and the Vice President of Elder Law of Michigan, Ronald Tatro for this important training highlighting the struggles being faced by elderly crime victims. This age group is in a uniquely vulnerable position, often facing declining physical, neurological and mental health. These issues make them particularly susceptable to abuse in institutional settings, and perhaps more disturbing and prevalent, in their own home with trusted friends and family.

PAAM Training Attorney Ryan Painter will discuss “Vulnerable Adult Abuse: A Prosecutor’s Perspective.” Ryan is the Elder Justice Resource Prosecutor for PAAM. He is a graduate of Notre Dame Law School, and is a member of the Ingham County Elder Abuse Coordinated Commmunity Response Team, and the Michigan Association of Check Investigators.

Next, Tom Holcomb will provide a presentation on “Seniors as Victims” and the scams they face in today’s society. Sadly, not all the scammers are strangers, and the elderly need to know the warning signs. Tom is the Elder Justice Fraud Investigator for PAAM, and is part of the State of Michigan’s PREVENT Initiative. He is a retired police detective with over 30 years of experience, including vulnerable adult abuse and elder financial fraud.

Finally, Ron Tatro will provide an engaging talk about “Seniors, Aging and Cognition:  Older Victims and the Court System.” This information will directly address the questions victim advocates may have in working with elderly victims. Ron is the Vice President of Elder Law of Michigan, where he has also worked as the Director of Consumer Fraud Prevention Project and Elder Abuse Prevention Services.
