PACC Freedom of Information Act Training
May 23, 2017
PAAM Offices - Lansing
Michigan’s 40-year-old Freedom of Information Act has been a boon to transparency for citizens, relative to the actions of state and local government. As applied in the context of the criminal justice system, however, it can be challenging to apply. Consideration of due process, privacy and interference with criminal investigations, lead to careful review of FOIA requests. Concurrent with these considerations, are the ethical responsibilities of prosecutors, which seemingly conflict with the disclosure mandates of the Act.
PACC brings this informal webinar training to Michigan’s prosecutors to hear from a FOIA expert, Assistant Attorney General Tom Quasarano, and engage in roundtable discussions of the issues and solutions concerning this important law.
This is a Polycom-web training, which will allow for in-person attendance or attendance via the internet. The training will occur in the Walker Boardroom at the PAAM office in Lansing. It will be held on May 23, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. There is no charge for this training.
Registration is required whether you will
be attending in person or participating online. We encourage in-person attendance, but due to the limited space to accommodate the webinar component, we can accommodate no more than 18 attendees.
