The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, Child
Abuse Training Services, in cooperation with the Prosecuting Attorneys
Coordinating Council, and the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS)
is pleased to present a Specialized Investigative Child Abuse Training for law
enforcement on the topic of Policing the Teen Brain™ . This training is scheduled to be
held March 21-22, 2019. It will begin with registration at 8:300 a.m. on
Thursday; seminar begins at 9:00 and concludes by 4:30 p.m. each day.
This training is designed for Law Enforcement Officers who:

Are
frustrated with the youth they deal with on a day-to-day basis
=
Are
looking for insight into teen behavior, mental health, and cultural challenges
=
Recognize
that avoiding escalation with youth will improve officer safety
This training will introduce you to important principles designed to help you have more positive interactions with youth (age 10 – 24). Topics will include Understanding How the Teen Brain
Works, Recognizing & Responding Effectively to Youth with Mental Health
Issues, Community Demographics & Cultural Factors for Officers, Gender
Roles and Expectations Impacting Teens, Juvenile Justice for Law Enforcement,
Asserting Authority Effectively with Teens, & more!
You will learn best practices for
policing youth including:

increasing officer safety

Avoiding escalation of
interactions with youth

Demonstrating good
communication approaches

Using developmental
competence to work with teens
This training is being facilitated by Strategies for Youth: Connecting Cops & Kids
There is no tuition charge or charge for
materials for this seminar. Attendees are responsible for overnight accommodations,
transportation, meals, and other incidental costs. Registration is limited to
30 law enforcement officers. Registering by the cut-off date does not
guarantee attendance.
Registration preference will be
given to Officers in South East Michigan due to grant fund requirements.
