VAWP Lunchtime Webinar Series
Topic: Victimless Prosecutions
September 20, 2019 at 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Online Webinar - GoToWebinar
What do you do when it’s the morning of your scheduled DV Preliminary Examination, and your victim doesn’t appear? Wondering how to go forward in trial, when your DV victim is no longer part of the process? Is dismissal the only option, or can you still push your case ahead? Please join Aylysh Gallagher, an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney from the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office, for our lunchtime webinar, “Going It Alone: Evidence Based DV Prosecutions, from Exam to Trial.” She will be discussing effective ways to conduct your Preliminary Examinations on DV cases in the wake of People v. Olney, and ways to bind over your case without victim participation. She will also chat about ways to build up your case, and prepare it to go forward to trial, in the most effective, evidence-based ways possible. Ms. Gallagher will additionally discuss the considerations, and challenges, of pursuing a case without your victim participating in the process, while trying to remain victim-centered.
Additional Registration Information. This webinar will be hosted on the platform GoToWebinar. Closer to the training, you will receive an email from GoToWebinar detailing how to join the webinar on September 20. Sometimes email servers block messages from this platform, so if by the morning of September 20 you have not received an email, please email Erica. Any questions about this process can be directed to Erica Smith at SmithE53@michigan.gov.
