Trauma Informed Prosecutions in CSC Cases

November 12, 2019 -- 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

Northwood University

Join the PAAM VAWP for training on “Trauma Informed Prosecutions in CSC Cases,” on November 12, 2019. This is a FREE, interactive 4-hour training in Midland. Cases involving sexual assault present with their own set of challenges and difficulties, along with negative public perceptions and issues of “victim blaming.” This training is designed to assist those handling these cases in different stages of the criminal process, from investigating the case and interviewing the victim, to jury selection and the possible use of expert testimony. The training is designed around learning to become more Victim-Centered, and Offender-Focused, in the handling of complex CSC cases. Training is appropriate for prosecutors or assistant prosecutors handling these cases, along with Prosecutor Office-based advocates and investigators.  The following topics will be covered:

  • The Neurobiology of Trauma
  • How to be Trauma Informed in Police Investigations
  • How to Conduct Trauma Informed and Victim-Centered Interviews
  • How to be Trauma Informed in Jury Selection and Eliciting Victim Testimony
  • Using Expert Testimony to Address Trauma Behavior
  • Vicarious Trauma
