Join the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan - VSTU and OVC for the training on Serving Survivors of Homicide, January 25-28, 2021.
Presenters: The PAAM VSTU
is pleased to host this training in partnership with the Office for Victims of
Crime, United States Department of Justice.
Our presenters will be Tina Chery, President and CEO of the Louis D.
Brown Peace Institute; and Angie McCown, Texas Department of Criminal Justice,
Director Victim Services Division.
Training Presentations: This
training will provide system-based victim advocates and prosecutors with the
skills to support families, friends, and others affected by homicide. The
training will allow participants to assist survivors of homicide
victims through the most shattering experience of their lives and
assisting them in incorporating their loss into their life.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Define homicide.
- Understand the
emotional and psychological responses to homicide.
- Identify stressors and
ways in which victim service providers can cope with stress and build
resilience.
- Describe how to make a
compassionate death notification.
- Provide appropriate
interventions following notification.
- Describe how to assist
survivors over the long-term following notification of a homicide.
- Explain how to prepare and support a survivor through the legal system and trial process.
This course is approved for 8 hours of credit under PAAM’s recommended CLE Best Practice.
This course is also approved for 8 hours of social worker
continuing education hours.
