Course Description
Prosecuting the Drugged Driver is a program created by the American Prosecutors Research Institute, National Traffic Law Center, with funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The goal of this course is to improve the investigation and prosecution of impaired drivers stemming from drugs other than alcohol and will use the team-building approach with officers and prosecutors. This course is free for prosecutors and law enforcement.
The curriculum for this course contains the following topics:
- An overview of the law enforcement officer's training to become a certified drug recognition expert;
- The drug recognition evaluation - understanding the evaluation procedure;
- Introduction to drugs of impairment - common signs and symptoms;
- Toxicology
- Responses to common defense challenges; and
- DUI drug case mock trial
Who should attend?
- Prosecutors and Law Enforcement Officers.
Will CLE and POST hours be available for this course?
- At least 15 CLE/POST hours will be available to claim for this course.
How much does this course cost?
- The course is grant-funded, so it is free for attendees. The grant also covers the cost of lodging, which PAC will arrange for you, meals (subject to the per diem rate) and mileage (also subject to the per diem rate and dependent upon state or county employment status).
