05.17.11 The House Judiciary committee gave this bill a favorable report as amended by the subcommittee.
05.12.11 The House Judiciary Constitutional Laws subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report with amendments. The amendment increases the fines that the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation may assess and allows them to use other acceptable documents to verify immigration status. The bill was also amended in the section on the enforcement unit to state that the unit will only be created when the funding is available and that the Director of the Department of Public Safety will appoint the appropriate person to oversee the unit.

02.08.11 The Senate Judiciary committee gave this bill a favorable report with amendments and a minority report on the bill. The amendments include the following:
1. Adds language that state you must be a resident of the county or municipality to bring suit against the county or municipality.
2. Adds language that states that a resident may only sue the county or municipality if the city or municipality intentionally takes an action against this law.
3. The last amendment states that the law takes effect on September 1, 2011 or 60 days after the governor's approval, whichever is later.
