The amendment makes it illegal for the state, local governments or employees of either to assist the federal government in the collection of a person’s electronic data or metadata. 02.12.2013 The Senate Judiciary committee gave this bill a favorable report with an amendment. 02.05.2013 A Senate Judiciary subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report with amendments. The amendments make technical changes to conform the language to the 2013 NDAA law. It also removes the words 'investigation' and 'prosecution' and clarifies the bill only seeks to address the powers granted by the state. Summary of the bill as introduced: Prohibits any officer or employee of the state or political subdivision from aiding the detention of any US citizen without trial by the US Armed Forces in violation of the constitution of SC. NDAA stands for the National Defense Authorization Act. |
