SUMMARY:  LC 28 6021  Makes significant changes in the elections process.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • local school board members shall be elected in the nonpartisan general election next preceding the expiration of the term of office
  • revisions are made to provisions related to write in candidates and the handling of absentee ballots by elections officials
  • adds presidential preference primaries to the list of dates in which special elections may be held
  • candidates in special elections may choose to designate party affiliation on the ballot

 EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon approval by the Governor and pre clearance by the U. S. Department of Justice.
