Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This legislation sets forth a new procedure for magistrate courts to foreclose on liens on abandoned vehicles and increases the filing fee from $10.00 to $25.00. The bill also provides new procedures for how towing companies file for lien foreclosures. Additionally the legislation sets forth that any excess funds from the sale of abandoned vehicles be remitted to the Department of Revenue Unclaimed Property Division.
