Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This legislation prohibits any individual under the age of 18 from using a stand alone electrtonic device or wireless telecommunications device while driving. The bill also eliminates the first offense waiver and raises the fine by $50 respectively for first, second and third offenses. The legislation also requires points to be assessed on driver's license for each offense. Additionally a $50 surcharge is assessed on each offense with the "intent" that the funds will be used for the Georgia Trauma Commission. |
