Staff Analysis of the Legislation

This legislation would create a House Study Committee regarding taxation of public utilities. At present, public utility property is assessed centrally for taxation purposes by the Georgia Department of Revenue, while the actual resulting billing and payment of taxes are handled through the county tax commissioners and city tax collectors. This committee would study the concept of centralizing collection of property taxes as well. |
