HB
544 seeks to amend Part 3 of Article 4 of Chapter 11 of Title 16 of the
O.C.G.A. relating to carrying and possession of firearms. The Act shall be
known as the “Georgia Campus Carry Act of 2015.”
The bill updates its definition of “government
building” to exclude any building or real property owned by, leased to, or used
as a campus for any public or private technical school, vocational school,
college, university, or institution of postsecondary education.
The bill adds a definition for the
term “weapon” and permits a license holder to carry, possess, or control a
weapon in or on any real property owned or leased to any of the aforementioned
educational institutions. Nothing in the subsection, though, shall be construed
to limit the rights of a private institution of postsecondary education to
exclude or eject a person who is in possession of a weapon or long gun on its
private property. |
