Staff Analysis of the Legislation

            HB 707 seeks to amend Chapter 6 of Title 40 of the O.C.G.A. relating to uniform rules of the road.

            It changes the conviction sentence for violating subsection (b) of Code Section 40-6-186 relating to racing on highways or streets, from a misdemeanor to a felony punishable by imprisonment between 1-5 years and/or a fine of $1,000-5,000.

            It further amends subsection (d) of Code Section 40-6-251, relating to driving in a circular or zig zag course, by changing a conviction of such crime from a misdemeanor to a felony punishable by the aforementioned punishments.
