Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB6 amends O.C.G.A. § 40-5-1 by establishing that ‘lawful alien status’ shall not include a grant of any deferred action from the United States Department of Homeland Security. Furthermore, SB6 amends Code Section 40-5-29 by creating a new “Driver’s Privilege Card” for recipients of grants of deferred action from the United States Department of Homeland Security (USDHS). However, SB6 clarifies that this driver’s privilege card shall not qualify as a state identification card. Additionally, the bill would require a specific way to be displayed on the card  to highlight that it is only for driving privileges, not for identification purposes and the holder is a recipient of deferred action from the USDHS.
