Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 280 adds the offense of trafficking a person for sexual servitude to  the definition of 'Dangerous sexual offense,' which may consist of a multitude of similar offenses such as child molestation, rape, or others outlined in their respective code sections. This will require offenders to register with the State Sexual Offender Registry. The bill also clarifies issues of concurrent jurisdiction and venue where there is a violation of registration requirements. Venue for these violations is proper in any county where the sexual offender is required to register.
