HB 370 amends Chapter 5 of Title 21 of the O.C.G.A. relating to ethics in government, so as to provide for waivers for certain civil penalties and fees incurred by candidates running for local elected office. O.C.G.A. ยง 21-5-7.2 is revised by allowing for a grace period through December 31, 2016 for campaign contribution reports and personal financial disclosure statements that were required by Chapter 5 between January 1, 2010 and January 10, 2014. If a public officer or candidate failed to follow this compliance, they may have fines and penalties waived following the approval of financial reports by the commission. The commission shall notify by mail, each public officer or candidate who is shown on the records of the commission to have failed to file, filed late, or made an incomplete filing of a report. After the commission determines that the officer is in compliance of financial filing, the officer may be refunded any fines or penalties that have been paid. |
