Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB 35 amends Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the OCGA by adding that a person who wishes to register as an elector can also apply as provided in Code Section 21-2-224 in person at the polling place in his or her residence on the day of the primary election or in person at the specified location during the absentee ballot period. In addition, a person who did not register to vote in accordance to the deadlines can still go to the location of the primary election or registrar’s office and vote after completing an official voter registration application and providing necessary forms of ID. That person will then qualify and be able to vote, or will not have enough time to be determined qualified, and may be issued a provisional ballot, which must be signed by the poll officer. If an error is found three days after the primary or election the registrars may notify the election superintendent.
