Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB 39 amends §16-6-3 of the O.C.G.A. by increasing the criminal penalties for pimping and pandering. Pimping would now be punished by a term of imprisonment ranging from 1 to 10 years while pandering would be punished as a serious misdemeanor for a first offense with subsequent offenses being punished as a felonies with a similar term of imprisonment as pimping. It also amends §42-1-12 by updating the period of when “dangerous sexual offenses” were committed to include repeat offenders to the State Sexual Offender Registry.
