Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 116 amends Chapter 11 of Title 15 of the OCGA by clarify aggravated assault definitions and violations, giving the superior court exclusive original jurisdiction for children aged 13-17 over aggravated assault with a firearm or aggravated battery. In addition, Section 3 adds that a child may have a petition filed against them to be transferred if a serious crime is committed against an alleged victim who is not a peace officer nor 65 years of age or older, or if the crime is aggravated assault with a firearm or aggravated battery.
