Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB 80 amends §16-11-130, relating to carrying and possessing firearms, by adding Georgia citizens to the list of people exempt from the weapons regulations described in §16-11-126 through §16-11-127.2. Any citizen of the state who has retired in good standing with at least ten years of service in law enforcement and who also possesses a retired officer identification card issued by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council would be authorized to carry a handgun anywhere within the state.
