Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 156 amends Article 1 of Chapter 3 of Title 12 of the OCGA by removing Code Section 12-3-10(2) that states that it is unlawful for any person to use or possess a firearm or handgun in a park, historic site, or recreational area and adding “weapon” and “long gun” into the list of illegal objects to have in the above mentioned areas. Anyone in possessing of a gun, firearm, or weapon must be a lawful weapons carrier. Code section 16-11-126, which details exceptions to weapon carrying, is removed.
