HB 288 amends § 30-4 of
the Official Code of Georgia Annotated by defining ‘Major life activities’ and
‘Service animal’; extending rights to those that also train service animals;
authorizing the Department of Human Services to issue identification cards for individuals
who train and use service animals and to outline the punishment for interfering
or causing harm to such animal. Interfering with a service animal carries a
fine of up to $2,000 and/or 30 days in jail. Causing harm to said animal
carries a fine up to $10,000 and between one to five years in jail. |
