Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB457 states that elections for the office of chief judge of the Magistrate Court of Brook County conducted after the effective date shall be held as nonpartisan elections during the nonpartisan general election preceding the expiration of each term of office. The chief judge shall not be effected on the effective date of the Act, and the sitting chief judge shall serve out the term of office and shall be eligible to succeed himself or herself.
