Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB572 amends the laws for The Recorder's Court of Chatham County by creating a chief judge. The chief judge will act as head of the court, consult with the court administrator in preparation of an annual budget, and advise and consult with the city manager. The chief judge should not have the authority for the cases or caseload. He or she will be chosen by majority vote of all seated judges of the Recorder's Court. The court administrator should be responsible for hiring, supervising, and investigations, the day to day operations of the court, managing dockets, and consulting with city managers and seated judges.
