Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 668 amends Article 2 of Chapter 4 of Title 29 of the OCGA.  Section 1 names this Act as "Darby's Law".  Section 2 amends Code Section 29-4-10  so that petitions may be filed for a ward to obtain adult guardianship where the ward is between the ages of 17 and 18 and the petitioner has a good faith reason to believe that the ward will satisfy prerequisite findings in subsection (a) of Code Section 29-4-1 upon turning 18.  If the petition is filed before the ward is 18, then any orders appointing a guardian will take effect when the ward is 18.
