Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB 9 amends Title 16 of the O.C.G.A to create the crime of sexual extortion. A person commits sexual extortion when they coerce another individual to engage in sexually explicit conduct or distributes any sexually explicit images of another person older than 18. Punishment upon the first offense shall result in a misdemeanor of high and aggravated nature. Second or subsequent offense is punished as a felony and imprisonment for up to 5 years. Each violation will be considered a separate offense. SB 9 additionally updates and revises the crime and punishment of sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority as well as the improper sexual contact by an employee or agent in public or private schools.
