Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 470 moves to amend Title 35 of the O.C.G.A to update and improve DNA sampling of felons and the purging of such records. The legislation adds the collection of DNA to individuals charged with a felony who have been imposed under first offender status. Additionally, the DNA profiles of such individuals must be destroyed within 30 days of the receipt of a certified copy of certain court orders.
