Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 720 amends Article 1 of Chapter 10 of Title 17 of the OCGA to clarify that a probation term will follow the mandatory imprisonment term for sexual offenders. For felony convictions, the probation term can be for life based on the court’s discretion and may include electronic monitoring. The bill further outlines the process for risk assessment and “sexually dangerous predator” classifications by the Sexual Offender Registration Review Board. The bill will apply only to offenses that occur on and after July 1, 2020.
