HB 757 amends Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the OCGA to require candidates for federal and state special elections to file a candidacy notice during a period determined by the Secretary of State and candidates for county special elections to file in his or her county’s superintendent office during a period determined by the superintendent. These periods shall be a minimum of 2½ days and commence no earlier than the special election’s call date. For federal elections, this period should commerce 60 days prior to the special election and, for state, county, and municipal, 25 days prior. These provisions also apply to special primaries. The bill further requires the voter registration deadline for run-off primaries and its derivatives be closed on the fifth Monday before the run-off primary’s date.
