Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB 317 amends Chapter 8 of Title 36 of the OCGA to allow county police departments be abolished by a local act of the General Assembly or by a resolution of the county’s governing authority. If either is passed, the department shall be abolished in the next 180 days and return its law enforcement functions to the county’s sheriff.
