Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 954 amends Article 1 of Chapter 8 of Title 16 of the OCGA to provide for definitions and penalties for stolen mail. A person who steals mail from at least three different mailboxes/addresses or possesses ten or more pieces of stolen mail shall be guilty of a theft crime. A person who takes another person’s sealed articles without permission from the immediate vicinity of a residence shall be guilt of porch piracy. Violators shall be guilty of a felony and serve a 1 to 5-year prison term.
