Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB 405 (LC 48 0225S) authorizes a six-person jury in civil actions in superior court, at the consent of the parties, for juries empaneled between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021; for a six-person jury in civil actions in state court, at the discretion of the trial judge or by consent of the parties, for juries empaneled between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021; and, for a six-person jury in felony cases in superior court through June 30, 2021 (to be repealed by operation of law on July 1, 2021). 

SB 405 as originally filed provided for an eleventh superior court judgeship in the Cobb Judicial Circuit, effective January 1, 2021. The language of those provisions has been amended on to HB 786.
