HB 1068 amends Article 1 of Chapter 7 of Title 19 of the OCGA to allow an individual to become a child’s official caregiver if a statement is provided demonstrating that the child will suffer physical or long-term emotional harm under the care of the parent and if the continued relationship between the child and the individual is in the best interest of the child. Custodial rights granted under this code section may be removed if the court finds that the child is no longer under risk from the parent.
