Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 1078 amends OCGA 15-1-3 to authorize the assessment of a technology fee, not to exceed $10, to each conviction, violation, or civil action, if a fee is not already authorized by local or general law. The legislation provides that the funds shall be maintained in a separate fund by the clerk of court, and may be used for the technological needs of the court, including: computer hardware or software; lease, maintenance, and installation of computer hardware or software; purchase, lease, maintenance, and installation of audio-visual, imaging, scanning, facsimile, communications, recording, projection, and printing equipment and software; technical support services; and cybersecurity insurance.
