HB 1083 amends Chapter 80 of Title 36 of the OCGA to refine ‘sanctuary policy’ as a law or practice adopted by a state or local government which prohibits a law enforcement agency from cooperating with a federal immigration agency. An individual injured by tortious acts of a person illegally in the U.S. shall have a cause of action if he or she can prove it was due to a local governing entity’s sanctuary policies and failure of compliance.
