Staff Analysis of the Legislation
HB 1119 acts to create the State Court of Paulding County effectively on July 1, 2022. All misdemeanor criminal cases pending in the Paulding County's Superior Court, Probate Court, and Magistrate Court shall be transferred to the Paulding County's State Court as of its creation. The trial jury will be composed of jurors that are processed in the same manner as is done in the superior court. The first judge and the first solicitor-general of the state court will be appointed by the Governor and his/her successors will be elected at the state-wide nonpartisan general election in 2024.
