Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 272 changes the age of individuals who fall into the juvenile court’s jurisdiction and the age included in all corresponding juvenile provisions from 17 to 18. The bill additionally enacts the ‘Raise the Age Act’ and provides the membership for its implementation committee, which will commence on or before May 1, 2021 and stand abolished on December 31, 2021.
