 SB1110- Damaged school facilities; replacement; grants

This bill allows the School Facilities Board (SFB) to grant money from the Building Renewal Grant fund to a district to replace a damaged school facility, including demolition, through the following process:

  •        The SFB initiates the request after the district submits information to them about a damaged school building;
  •       The SFB will receive a replacement cost estimate;
  •       When the cost to repair exceeds the cost to replace, the SFB will submit a project proposal to the Joint Committee on Capital Review to use the Building Renewal Grant fund to replace the building;
  •      If the Joint Committee reviews the proposal, the SFB may award the school funding from the Building Renewal Grant fund to the district for replacement costs.

The SFB must collaborate with the state historic preservation officer to prevent the demolition of historic buildings.
