SB1217- Arizona
high school graduates; tuition (Carter) This bill establishes the Arizona tuition rate for an individual
who applies for admission to an Arizona university or community college after
graduating from an Arizona school or is educated pursuant to an empowerment
scholarship account. States that ABOR and district boards have the authority to prescribe
the tuition rates and requires ABOR and district boards to verify that the individuals
high school diploma meets the outline requirements and treat all diplomas in
the same manner. Eliminates the requirement that an individual must apply
within four years after graduation to a University or community college to
qualify for the Arizona tuition rate. Eliminates session law requiring an individual to apply,
before July 1, 2021 and within 12 years after graduation to qualify for the
Arizona tuition rate. Specifies that a high school graduate from an Arizona school
as outline is eligible for the Arizona tuition rate. Specifies ABOR and the district boards recognize and treat all
diplomas in the same manner. Specifies that an individual who previously qualified for
the Arizona tuition rate maintains eligibility for the same tuition rate if
they are continuously enrolled in the educational institution. Excludes postsecondary education from the definition of a
state or local public benefit. Defines continuously enrolled as without nonenrolment for 12
months or more. |
