SB1270- office of Indian education; assistance (Peshlakai)

This bill appropriates $200,000 from the State General Fund each FY to the ADE to fund the Office of Indian Education (OIE).

Requires the money to be used for conferences, technical assistance, trainings and full-time equivalent employees assigned to the Office of Indian Education, if possible.

Prescribes additional duties to the office of Indian Education, including:

1.       Professional development;

2.       Data literacy;

3.       Teacher recruitment and retention;

4.       Native language development;

5.       Fiscal management, including the most efficient use of available money;

6.       Family engagement;

7.       Incorporation of Native American culture into curricula.
