SB1459- parental information; curricula; schools

This bill requires school district governing boards to annually provide a curriculum information form as part of the plan for parent participation in schools, and for each school to distribute this form to all parents.

Outlines required aspects of the form, including:

1.      A link to the text of the Parents Bill of Rights;

2.      A link to the text of statute detailing the procedures by which parents may learn about their rights and responsibilities as developed by the governing board;

3.     Detailed information on the curriculum that will be taught in the classroom;

4.     A complete list of mandatory and optional reading materials;

5.     A complete list of the digital learning materials, including websites and online applications made available to pupils;

6.     An acknowledgement that the school district or charter school has reviewed the reading materials and determined they don’t violate statute,

7.     An acknowledgment that the district or contracted provider of the materials has reviewed the online reading materials or applications and determined that they do not violate statute.
