SB1468- schools; suicide prevention training (Bowie) This bill requires that, beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, school districts must require training to be completed for any personnel who work with students in grades 6-12 at least once every three years in the following matters:
- Suicide prevention;
- Identifying warning
signs of suicidal behavior; and
- Appropriate intervention
and referral techniques.
Clarifies Arizona Teacher Training programs to develop or adopt evidence based instruction that includes the same elements required of school districts and charter schools and provide that instruction to all teacher candidates.
States that the training offered may be
provided within the framework of existing programs or as part of professional
development programs, but must be included as a part of each teacher training
program and use evidence-based training materials. Requires the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment system administration to develop a suicide prevention training program and post it to their site, along with an updated list of approved materials that schools may use to provide the training. Clarifies that school personnel are not
civilly or criminally liable for any actions taken in good faith under this
section. Requires any costs incurred by school districts in implementing this training be classified as "classroom spending" in the Auditor General's annual Classroom Spending Report. |
